Eczema Specialist GP
If you are looking for a doctor who specialises in eczema, Eczema Doc provides online consultations with an experienced GP whose clinical practice is focused specifically on eczema.
I am a UK-trained GP with more than 20 years of experience in general practice. Over the years, I have developed a particular clinical focus on the assessment and treatment of eczema in both adults and children.
I am a GP, not a dermatologist. My role is to provide medical assessment and treatment for eczema within general practice, with referral to dermatology or other specialist services when this is clinically appropriate.
Why see a GP who specialises in eczema?
Eczema is commonly managed within general practice.
A GP can assess your symptoms, review previous treatments, look for complications such as infection, consider whether another diagnosis may need to be excluded, and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
For many people with persistent eczema, the problem is not simply finding another cream. It is understanding why the eczema remains active and developing a treatment approach that is appropriate for the individual.
What do I look at during an eczema consultation?
During a consultation, I will consider factors including:
where your eczema occurs
how extensive it is
how severe your symptoms are
how often you experience flares
how your eczema affects your sleep and everyday life
treatments you have previously tried
how your skin has responded to previous treatment
whether there may be infection
possible irritants or triggers
your longer-term treatment needs
Photographs can also be useful when assessing eczema during an online consultation.
What if my eczema keeps coming back?
Repeated eczema flares can be frustrating, particularly when treatment appears to work temporarily and the eczema then returns.
Rather than simply treating each flare in isolation, it can be useful to review the overall pattern of your eczema and your previous treatment.
This may help identify whether your treatment approach needs to be changed or whether additional factors need to be considered.
Personalised eczema treatment
There is no single treatment that is appropriate for every person with eczema.
Treatment needs to take account of factors such as age, severity, affected areas, previous treatment and the individual's response.
Where appropriate, I may recommend a structured topical treatment approach tailored to the individual patient.
When should you seek medical advice?
You should consider medical assessment if:
your eczema has become difficult to control
your eczema keeps returning
your current treatment no longer seems to be working
your eczema is spreading
your skin is painful, cracked or weeping
you think your eczema may be infected
eczema is significantly affecting your sleep or quality of life
If there are features that require assessment by a dermatologist or another specialist, I can advise you about whether referral or further investigation is appropriate.
Doctor-led eczema care online
Eczema Doc is different from a general online medical service.
The service is specifically focused on eczema, allowing consultations to concentrate on the assessment and treatment of your eczema rather than a wide range of unrelated medical conditions.
I provide online consultations for eligible adults and children with persistent, recurrent or difficult-to-treat eczema.
About Eczema Doc
Eczema Doc was established to provide accessible, doctor-led medical care for people struggling with eczema.
My approach is based on my experience as a GP and my particular focus on eczema.
I do not claim to be a dermatologist. Where a patient's symptoms require specialist dermatology assessment, this will be recognised and appropriate medical advice given.
